Our Story

We connect Floridians to their political power by mobilizing people, winning elections, holding elected officials accountable, and advancing responsible public policies.

Florida Conservation Voters, formerly known as Florida’s Water and Land Legacy, formed in 2012 as a coalition of non-profit environmental organizations for the sole purpose of passing Amendment 1, the Water and Land Conservation Amendment. In 2014 we succeeded in that effort with Amendment 1 receiving an overwhelming 75% public support, proving that Floridians care deeply about our environment. As a result of that victory, $20 billion of the state legislative budget is dedicated to water and land conservation throughout the 20-year lifespan of the amendment.

In 2015, we took the grassroots organization we’d built during the Amendment 1 campaign and became the state affiliate of the national League of Conservation Voters with the mission of electing lawmakers who will protect our environment and healthy communities for everyone.

Since then, we’ve aimed to be the state’s leading non-partisan political voice for protecting Florida’s environment. With your help, we elect, educate, and hold our elected officials accountable for their environmental and conservation policy votes. Through a multi-pronged approach, including elections, legal action, voter outreach, grassroots activism, and lobbying, we work to ensure that lawmakers make protecting our natural areas and advancing affordable clean energy their top priorities while in office. And we hold lawmakers who undermine sound environmental policies accountable for their actions.
