Miami, FL — In celebration of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s confirmation to the Supreme Court on April 7, 2022, Florida Conservation Voters (FCV) issued the following statement by

Jalisa Giles, FCV’s Civic Engagement and Democracy for All Director:

“The story of Black women in the United States is the story of the United States itself. Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson is not the first Black woman to have the intelligence, integrity, and legal qualifications to sit on the Supreme Court, nor will she be the last. However, her confirmation does not absolve our country’s history of overlooking, discounting, and suppressing millions of people because of their skin color or gender. Judge Brown Jackson earned her seat on the bench, and now stands in service to everyone who calls our country home and believes in the promise of the American Dream. Our collective work to create a healthy and sustainable future for everyone and protect our democracy requires a legal system that truly represents the people. Congratulations to Judge Brown Jackson for her remarkable achievement.”

  1. I’m thrilled and so proud that my classmate that I graduated with in my high school class, Ketanji Brown Jackson, is now confirmed and has a seat on the Supreme Court!
