Tell Congress to Support the 100% Clean Energy Economy Act

published on: November 14, 2019

Across Florida, communities are already experiencing the devastating impacts of climate change. Even worse, these impacts are hitting communities of color, Indigenous communities, and low-income communities the hardest, exacerbating existing racial and economic inequities. It’s critical that we move away from polluting fossil fuels and build a more sustainable, healthy future for all.

We have a rare opportunity to do that at the federal level with the 100% Clean Energy Economy Act, which will aim to transition our economy to 100% clean energy and net zero emissions by 2050. In doing so, we can improve public health for communities most impacted by pollution and climate change, ensure fossil fuel workers are trained for family-sustaining clean energy jobs, and reduce the harmful carbon pollution that is fueling extreme weather events across the country.

Communities across the state are leading the fight to build a cleaner, safer economy for all of us. Now, it’s up to us to keep that momentum going and hold our elected leaders accountable to act. That’s why we’re working with our partners in the Conservation Voters Movement to flood Congressional inboxes and show them just how important it is to invest in our clean energy economy today. Will you add your name and urge Congress to support the 100% Clean Energy Economy Act?

Progress toward a clean energy future is already happening at the state and local levels all across this country. For example, earlier this fall Sen. José Javier Rodríguez (D-Miami) and Rep. Anna V. Eskamani (D-Orlando) filed a 100% Renewable Energy Goals Bill, proposing goals for utilizing renewable, electric power across the state by 2050.

This is all part of our work for Clean Energy For All — a program that is working to transition our economy to 100% clean energy by 2050. And most importantly: our clean energy campaign centers on climate justice to ensure that those most impacted by climate change — especially communities of color, Indigenous communities, and low-income communities — are at the center.

To build upon the incredible work being done in Florida, it’s critical that we also advance bold legislation at the federal level to further limit the use of dirty fossil fuels and advance a just transition to clean energy. The 100% Clean Energy Economy Act will support and expand action already being taken at the local level by cities, communities, and businesses across our state to limit carbon pollution that’s contributing to climate change.

There’s no time to waste: Tell Congress to advance our clean energy economy
