FCV and partners demand climate action from the Governor-elect

FCV’s Aliki Moncrief, Executive Director and Jonathan Webber, Deputy Director, delivering the signed letter to the Governor-elect’s office.

Just a few hours ago, I hand-delivered an open letter to the office of Governor-Elect Ron DeSantis strongly urging him to make climate change a priority in his Administration. And I am proud to say more than 3,400 people added their name!

This letter could not have been more urgent or timely. Both the United Nations and our federal government have released scientific reports in recent months with dire warnings about the threats that climate change and sea-level rise pose to Floridians. But I don’t have to tell you; we know all too well the devastating effects from climate change (e.g., red tide, rapidly-intensifying hurricanes, and blue-green algae).

To be blunt, we are running out of time. Governor-Elect DeSantis has a real opportunity to reorient Florida’s response to this growing challenge. We are counting on him to take swift action. There is no room for excuses or delays.

Of course, we could not have done this if not for people like YOU and our coalition partners in the CLEO Institute, Sierra Club, Southern Alliance for Clean Energy and our allies in Progress Florida and ReThink Energy Florida. We are stronger when we work together.

Thank you so much for all that you do for Florida.
