Aliki Moncrief: Environmental values transcend party politics

published on: August 31, 2016

Dear Friends,

We pulled a late night at the Florida Conservation Voters office as the elections results from our endorsed candidates rolled in, and because your support was instrumental in our victories, I wanted to give you a quick update.

As you know, this is FCV’s first election endorsing pro-conservation candidates. We are proud that, of our five endorsed candidates, four prevailed. They are:

  • Dwight Bullard (D), Senate District 40 (Miami)
  • Thad Altman (R), House District 52 (Brevard)
  • Erin Grall (R), House District 54 (Indian River, St. Lucie)
  • Ben Diamond (D), House District 68 (Pinellas)

FCV supporters like you played an important role in the success of these conservation allies. Thank you to everyone who helped by making phone calls, volunteering, or canvassing neighborhoods on behalf of our endorsed candidates!

We’re ramping up our support for pro-conservation candidates, but we haven’t forgotten our roots as a constitutional amendment campaign. When we won for water and land conservation in 2014, we showed that environmental values transcend party politics.

Yesterday, we did it again with Amendment 4.

We partnered with Vote Solar on a digital outreach program to promote the pro-solar amendment and successfully reached 2.1 million voters with our Yes On 4 message. Amendment 4 passed with 73% of the vote statewide, showing once again that Floridians, regardless of party, want more clean energy and a healthy environment for future generations.

You helped make these victories possible, and it is with our deepest gratitude that we thank you for believing in us and our mission to elect pro-conservation candidates to public office.

Thank you.

For Florida,

Aliki Moncrief
Executive Director of Florida Conservation Voters
